The influence of DL-methionine on the metabolism of S-adenosylethionine in rats chronically treated with DL-ethionine.
The concentration of S-adenosylethionine in the liver of ethionine-fed rats was increased gradually during the process of carcinogenesis. This increase may have been due to the decreased capacity of the treated rats to acetylate ethionine sulfoxide. Ethionine sulfoxide is considered as the main reserve pool of ethionine for the synthesis of S-adenosylethionine. When the ethionine diet was suppl...
متن کاملEfficacy of DL-methionine hydroxy analog free acid and DL-methionine as methionine sources for pigs.
Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of dietary DL-methionine hydroxy analog-free acid (MHA-FA, 88%) compared with DL-methionine (DLM, 99%) as Met sources in pigs. In Exp. 1, a total of 245 crossbred pigs (initial BW of 6.4 kg [SD = 0.5]) were allotted to 7 treatments in 7 replicates for an experimental period of 28 d. The basal diet (BD) was formulated to contain 17.5% CP an...
متن کاملEffects of DL-ethionine on mouse liver tRNA base composition.
Treatment of mice with DL-ethionine and adenine causes a reduction of all methylated bases of liver tRNA. This effect is dose-dependent and specific for the methylated bases. Individual methylated components are affected to different extents, m22G being most sensitive to inhibition.
متن کاملEFFECTS OF EXCESS DIETARY CYSTEIC ACID, dl-METHIONINE, AND TAURINE ON THE RAT LIVER
1. Cysteic acid fed to albino rats as 12.5 to 15 per cent of the McCollum stock diet caused portal necrosis and cirrhosis of the liver within 2 weeks. Concentrations of cysteic acid of 6.25 per cent or less in the diet produced no liver lesions within 2 weeks. 2.dl-Methionine fed as 6.4 to 12.4 per cent of the McCollum stock diet or of a low protein, low fat diet, resulted in severe atrophy of ...
متن کاملComparative metabolism of L-methionine, DL-methionine and DL-2-hydroxy 4-methylthiobutanoic acid by broiler chicks.
1. Metabolism, in broiler chicks, of DL-2-hydroxy 4-methylthiobutanoic acid (DL-HMB), DL-methionine and L-methionine was compared in vivo using 14C-labelled tracers. 2. The distribution of L-[1-14C]methionine and DL-[1-14C]HMB in the major body tissues was examined for a period of 120 min after administration. 3. The relative oxidation (14CO2 exhaled), excretion and incorporation into tissue pr...
